Thoughts of an EVS volunteer – Nilufer

Hi everyone,

I just want to tell you guys what is EVS for me, what did I learn until now‚ why  I choosed Romania etc.  Many other questions will be answered in my article. But while writing this article its been only 2 weeks since I arrived here. So I will tell you more in  part 2 of the article, when my EVS will end.

Firstly, EVS was a good chance to improve and get to know myself better. It is not a job, you don’t make money, you don’t have a good house, but you really want to do something by  volunteering.  I volunteer because I love the children in the social centers; they were really so cute. Even if I couldn’t speak Romanian I spent a great time with them, we loved each other very much. So EVS is doing a good thing  without expecting something else from anybody. It is a really good  way to feel useful as a person in the community.

I and my friend Simla decided to attend EVS together. We handled every detail in Turkey. To be honest, when we were on the way from Bucharest to Piatra Neamt, we got disappointed because we had a disgraceful trip. But when we arrived at Piatra Neamt our hosting organisation arranged all things. Thanks to them somebody picked us up from the train station even if the hour was so late. When we went home we found food so we can eat. So as I said, when we were on the way almost everything was awful, but it changed when we arrived in Piatra Neamt.

The first days we had some lessons about Romanian language  and Romanian culture. And then we started to go social centers. We met them during the first week. This is the best thing here for me ! The children in social centers were so polite and friendly.

The second week we prepared some activities that we can do with them. When we went to go see them they were so happy and we were very excited to see their faces. We went to a picnic with them. There was a small puddle and they swam there; we took care of them when they were swimming. All of them were asking for our attention.

And of course,  we had a trip close to Piatra Neamt and it was so fun. We went to Iasi and Targu Neamt. We loved Iasi – big and green city. Targu Neamt was so good too. We saw the combat area between Romanians and Ottomans – Neamt Citadel.

To be continued…
